Ride for Relief: a unique charity ‘cycling and bathing’ event to support the one in five Australians suffering from mental illness

After the successful delivery of our first Ride for Relief last year, Peninsula Hot Springs is again working in partnership with Mentis Assist to help support mental health in the community. We do this both by hosting the event and through our core offering of mindful and therapeutic bathing experiences in nature. Ride for Relief provides an opportunity for participants to openly discuss mental health issues and share personal stories, as every one of us knows someone whose life has been touched by mental ill health.

The ride

On the morning of the event, our team riders will meet at Peninsula Hot Springs to take off on a spectacular scenic ride around the Mornington Peninsula. There are two courses to choose from: 51km or 106km, depending on the rider’s confidence level.

The ride will finish at the hot springs, where riders will keep connecting and sharing stories over a group lunch and bathe in geothermal pools.

The cause

The Ride for Relief team will be raising awareness and funds for mental health.

Mentis Assist is a not-for-profit mental health support service that provides specialised services for people (and their carers) living with a diagnosed mental illness in and outside of the Mornington Peninsula.

Mentis Assist will use these funds to promote accessible mental health and physical wellbeing opportunities that build strong and resilient individuals and communities.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your generous support. We look forward to sharing our journey and achievements with you.

Some stats on mental illness

  • One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience mental illness in any year. Almost half (45%) Australians will experience mental illness in their lifetime.
  • Depression, like anxiety and substance use disorder, is one of the most common mental illnesses. It is the leading cause of disability worldwide.
  • Every day, at least six Australians die from suicide, and a further thirty people attempt to take their own life.
  • Men are at greatest risk of suicide, as are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
